The NPPL (M) 25 hour Course
The NPPL M class rating is a recreational licence, allowing flight in an aircraft (up to 450KG) in visual flight conditions (VFR) and requires a minimum of 25 hours flight training plus flight test. Making this an easy entry level pilots licence. Once issued, the licence is valid for life, subject to the revalidation requirements, making it the popular choice. With scope for adding a SSEA (Simple Single Engine Aeroplane) Class rating, to the licence at a later date. Health Requirements: A declaration of medical fitness from a General Practitioner (GP), equivalent to the DVLA group 2 professional driving medical is required for this licence.
Flight Training: 25 Hours flight training to include10 hours solo flight. Examinations: There are5 written multiply choice examinations, air law, meteorology, navigation, human performance limitations, the airplane technical and a general skills test.
The NPPL (SSEA) rating 32 hour Course
The NPPL is a recreational pilots licence, allowing VFR flight in a light aircraft (of less than 2000KG) whilst carrying passengers in UK airspace. The course is a minimum of 32 hours plus flight tests. Once issued the licence is valid for life, subject to the revalidation requirements. The licence itself is easier to obtain and easier to maintain than the standard JAR PPL. Health Requirements: A declaration of medical fitness from a GP, equivalent to the DVLA group 2 professional driving medical is required for this licence.
Flight Training: If you have already completed some training it is possible to credit this to the NPPL training. When you obtain the NPPL, you may "Upgrade" your licence to a JAR PPL. 30 hours can be credited towards a JAR-FCL PPL, providing that all flying training has been completed by a JAR qualified instructor and all JAR PPL exams have been passed. 15 hours of training will need to be completed, of which 5 can be done on a simulator. Examinations: The written exams are identical for both NPPL and JAA - PPL. 7 examinations, Aviation Law, Navigation, Meteorology, Human Performance Limitations, Aircraft Technical, Flight Planning and Performance, the R/T written test and practical radio operators exam and flight tests.
The JAA PPL 45 hour Course
The Joint Aviation Authority private pilots licence is a recreational licence, and can be achieved by completing a course of flight training comprising a minimum of 45 hours. The licence allows you to fly as pilot in command or Co pilot, of any aeroplane engaged on a non revenue flight. The licence is valid to fly VFR anywhere in the UK and Europe. It is also accepted in most other countries where private aviation is carried out. This licence is the first choice for a pilot who intends to buy or hire an aeroplane with touring type performance and anybody considering a career as a professional pilot. Health Requirements: A class two medical certificate is required.
Flight Training: The training comprises of a course of flight instruction to the approved JAR syllabus. A minimum of 45 hours of training is required, 25 of which must be dual instruction and 10 of which must be solo flying. Examinations: The written exams are identical for both NPPL and JAA – PPL.
Additional Ratings: JAA PPL holders can build on their basic privileges by attaching additional ratings to their licences: Night rating, Instrument Meteorological Condition Rating (IMC), Multi-engine Piston Rating (MEP), PPL Instrument Rating (PPL/IR).

Age: You may commence your training at 14 years old. You must be 16 before carrying out your first solo flight. The minimum age for issue of a Private Pilots Licence is 17 years old. There is no maximum age limit.
Aircraft: For your basic training we generally use Cessna 152. These are 2 seat aircraft and are designed specifically for basic training. They offer stable handling characteristics with excellent all round visibility. Feel free to visit us at any time and have a look around our aeroplanes.
Examinations: In addition certain theoretical knowledge must be gained and this is achieved by self study with self study as required. The examinations are only based on knowledge you will have acquired during your training, and your instructor will not let you sit any exams he doesn't feel you are capable of passing. All tests are in fact multi-choice and require a 75% pass mark.
Medical Health: Before you carry out your first solo flight and in order to maintain licence validity you are required to provide a signed medical. If you are generally fit with good eyesight and hearing you will pass the medical. Corrected eyesight with spectacles or contact lenses is perfectly acceptable
Flight Test: On completion of your training you will be required to take a flying skill test. This normally lasts approximately 2 hours and covers all you have learnt in your flying training. The test is conducted with an approved examiner.
